Perennial

Chrysanthemum nipponicum

Montauk Daisy

Plant Type: Perennial

This perennial Chrysanthemum has large white daisy-like flowers and attractive green leaves that are glossy, toothed, and appear almost succulent. It has a bushy, shrublike form and prefers full sun and average to dry soil. Like other perennial Chrysanthemums it blooms in the fall, giving a much needed boost of color to the garden and also a crucial food source for pollinators and butterflies. Its cut flowers also hold up beautifully in cut flower arrangements. It grows easily, only needing to be deadheaded in order to promote new blooms. It can also be trimmed back in spring to help it stay compact and keep the plant from opening up. It works best in the middle of garden beds since its lower leaves can tend to drop and and could also be used in cut flower gardens, pollinator gardens, coastal gardens, or rock gardens.
