Native
Allium cernuum
Nodding Onion
This native allium has the distinctive feature of having its light pink-purple flower clusters hang downwards, hence the "nodding" in its name. It gives the plant a great sense of movement when the flowerheads sway in the breeze, and the flowers are a big hit with bees and smaller pollinators. It is more tolerant of wet soils than other Alliums, and can even grow in wet clay soils. It also will naturalize where it is happy. It looks stunning in mass plantings, meadow plantings, cottage gardens and could also be used in rain gardens.
