Annual
Chamaedorea cataractarum
Cat Palm
Cat Palm has lustrous green foliage on stems that are more flexible and softer than those of the Majesty Palm. It has a very graceful appearance that lends itself perfectly to use in decorative beds or as a tall "thriller" in containers. It does require more shade than other palms since its leaves can burn quite easily and it needs consistently moist, well-drained soil to keep its lush color. However, even in partial shade it can at times produce interesting panicles of yellow flowers that can add some interest. At the end of the season it can also be readily rehomed as a non-toxic houseplant.
