Perennial
'Miner's Merlot' features dramatic foliage that emerges as a deep burgundry-red before gradually turning a darker green with red undertones. Its flowers are bright yellow and cradled in chartruese bracts that are held up on wiry burgundy stems. It blooms from summer and into the fall and pollinators are very fond of the flowers. It requires average to dry soils; good drainage is a must since it does not like wet feet. Its foliage is evergreen and provides interest all year round, while also being deer and rabbit resistant since it emits a white sap when cut (this sap is irritating to humans as well so care should be taken when pruning). It is great for use in mixed containers, in beds and borders in drier locations, and rock and gravel gardens.
