Perennial
A vigorous shade-loving perennial noted for the beautiful red heart-shaped foliage and red spurred flowers in spring. Foliage matures to a medium green creating an attractive taller groundcover. Fall color is equally notable as a coppery red and yellow. Prefers rich loose evenly moist soil and will tolerate drought once established. Semi-evergreen although it may be desired to cut foliage back in early winter. No serious diseases or insect problems. Spreads faster than most Barrenwort.
