Perennial

Actaea (formerly Cimicifuga) simplex 'Atropurpurea'

Bugbane

Plant Type: Perennial

Actaea is a showy shade-loving perennial that adds instant drama to any garden setting. This variety has dramatic dark purple foliage and produces tall, graceful flower spikes in mid to late summer. It thrives in partial shade to full shade with moist, rich soil and would look fabulous in a woodland garden or in the back of a shady border. As its common name suggests, it naturally repels insects (although the flowers' scent is quite pleasant to people) and is also deer resistant!
