'Purple Dome' is a sturdy, bushy plant with hairy lance-shaped dark green leaves that is covered in 1.5" deep purple blooms with yellow centers from late summer and into fall. Its blooms are favored by butterflies and pollinators, and its bright color is welcome later in the year when other plants have stopped blooming. Its straight species naturally occurs in moist prairies, valleys, and stream banks and it performs best in full sun. This makes it an excellent choice for plantings at the waters edge, rain gardens, and in meadow/prairie-style plantings. It also adds a lot of interest in beds and borders and when planted in large groups and drifts.
