Native
Chelone glabra
Turtlehead
This demure native plant has spires of white flowers that look like snapdragons and/or turtles heads, as its common name suggests. It requires partial shade and consistently moist, rich soils to look its best, although it may be able to tolerate more sun as long as it is not allowed to dry out. It naturally occurs in moist woodlands, swampy areas, and streambeds, making an ideal choice for woodland gardens, shadier beds and borders, or waters' edges in the landscape. It would also be a good choice for rain gardens and bioswale plantings.
