Aconitum carmichaelii 'Arendsii'
Monkshood
Plant Type: Perennial
Reaching up to 4 feet high, 'Arendsii' produces dramatic spires of true deep blue flowers that resemble the hoods of medieval monks on stems covered in dark green foliage. It is a welcome pop of color that emerges in early through late fall. It thrives in full sun to partial shade in moist, well drained soils. The stunning flowers work well in cut flower arrangements, but since it is poisonous to humans and wildlife (it is deer and rabbit resistant) care should be taken when cutting the plants back. With its dramatic height it is a perfect contender for the back of beds and borders and would fall right in to a cottage garden theme.
