Amsonia hubrichtii
Blue Star
'Blue Star' is an all-star native plant that offers all-season interest! Its tall, upright stems are lined with fine needle-like green foliage that looks great when planted in groupings and it produces powder-blue flowers in the spring that are enjoyed by butterflies. Later in fall, its foliage changes to a beautiful golden-straw hue. Resist cutting the stems back and further enjoy the way the snow and ice forms on the buff-brown plants. It does best in full sun where it can produce more flowers and the stems will have a tighter form, although it can tolerate partial shade. It can also withstand a variety of soil and moisture conditions, including clay soils, which also make it a good choice for rain gardens.
