'Thunderdome' is a hybrid of the New England and Aromatic Asters, making for a compact mounding habit of aromatic foliage and bright purple daisy-like flowers that bloom from late summer to fall. It is tolerant of dry soils and does well in moist well-drained soils in full sun. It can also tolerate clay and rocky soils making it fit for tougher parts of the landscape. Its blooms are still enjoyed by butterflies and pollinators and it continues to bring color late in the season. It works well in beds and borders, planted in masses and drifts, and in meadow/prairie plantings.
