Baptisia 'Lunar Eclipse'
False Indigo
'Lunar Eclipse' produces tall, attractive spires of cream colored flowers that mature to a lavender-blue hue and is further emphasized by its blue-green foliage. The flowers are enjoyed by bees and butterflies and also work well for cut flower arrangements. It does best in full sun in order to produce the most flowers and keep a tighter rounded form, but it can be grown in partial shade. The flowers produce attractive seed pods that can look quite sculptural if left on the plant, but they can also be deadheaded in order to help the plant keep its shape. It can tolerate dry, rocky soils, which is similar to the environments where other plants in its genus can be found naturally. It is also salt tolerant which makes it a good choice for plantings along roads or driveways. It would also work well as a taller plant in perennial beds and borders and in meadow/prairie-style plantings.
