Carex appalachica
Appalachian Sedge
Plant Type: Native
Appalachian Sedge forms fine leaved clumps of foliage that hang down and sweep the ground, giving it an attractive breezy effect. It requires dry to average soils and can tolerate partial to full shade. It can be used as a lawn alternative and also as an effective form of erosion control on dry slopes once established. It is also attractive when used in beds along woodland edges and interspersed with other shady perennials. It will freely naturalize by seed which forms on its inconspicous flowers, which is often welcomed.
