Ceratostigma plumbaginoides
Plumbago
Plumbago has gorgeous true dark blue flowers that grow at the tips of its stems from late summer into early fall. It can grow in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist well-drained soils but can tolerate some dry conditions once established. It is a vigorous grower that makes an excellent groundcover where the blue flowers can be enjoyed en masse. It can spread somewhat aggressively where it is happy, but can be trimmed back easily to slow its spread. In the fall the foliage takes on an attractive reddish hue, adding to its interest. It is good for use at edges of beds and borders with other more agressive plants, planted under shrubs as a living mulch, and can also be used in rock gardens.
