Convallaria majalis
Lily of the Valley
Plant Type: Perennial
Lily of the Valley is a familiar perennial with 2-3 large, glossy ovate green leaves (reminiscent of an orchid) that produces an arching flower stem with small, sweetly scented bell-shaped blooms. It is known to spread quite aggressively and should only be planted in areas where it can be allowed to naturalize. It can tolerate full to partial shade and prefers moist well drained soil but can tolerate drought and holds it own with tree and shrub roots for moisture. It is best suited as an attractive groundcover in shady garden and woodland settings.
