Galium odoratum

Plant Type: Perennial

A sweet smelling groundcover perennial for the shady garden. Sweet Woodruff is a durable and versatile ornamental herb turned perennial with soft green whorled foliage that emits an odor of fresh hay when crushed. In late spring, tiny white flowers dance above the leaves and are also fragrant.  In preferred conditions Sweet Woodruff is a strong grower and typicallly forms a dense mat. In excessive sunlight or hot dry summers, the plant may go dormant until fall.  Also used to flavor wine, tea, and cold drinks; make potpourri, sachets, and perfumes.
