Tradescantia zebrina
Tradescantia
Plant Type: Annual
This classic variety of Tradescantia features small, lance-shaped leaves that are an eye-catching silver, purple and green; they really appear to shimmer in the light! The undersides of the leaves are a deep purple and when temperatures are warmer it can produce small magenta flowers at its tips. It does best in partial sun conditions and when allowed to dry out between waterings. It looks great in a hanging basket all on its own or tucked into the edges of containers and window boxes as a "spiller." It is a vigorous grower that responds well to being cut back whenever it gets too long, and could be used as a groundcover or front of borders in shady areas if desired.
