A colorful and durable deciduous shrub smothered with bright red flowers in mid-spring that are attractive to hummingbirds. Flowers hold that bright red color for the bloom duration, rather than fading. Often blooms a second time in late summer but without the intensity of the spring bloom. Winter appearance and stems are coarse. Pollution tolerant. Great as an open lawn shrub or in the shrub border.
